Eating Disorders and Comorbid Substance Use Disorders

The purpose of this presentation is to provide general knowledge about the co-occurrence of Substance Use Disorders (SUDS) and Eating Disorders (EDs). From the presentation, clinicians will be able identify possible comorbidity among clients based on assessment questions to define symptoms. With up to 50% of those with EDs abusing alcohol and other drugs, and 35% of those with SUDs reporting to have symptoms of disordered eating, many clinicians working in the field may need to consider if they are assessing for each and follow ethical guidelines according to their level of competency to treat EDs or SUDs.
