This class will provide an overview of substance abuse prevention, including the key principles, strategies, and best practices. Participants will learn about the prevalence and impact of substance abuse in society and how prevention efforts can be used to mitigate its effects. Through interactive exercises, case studies, and group discussions, participants will explore the various substance abuse prevention approaches, including community-based, school-based, and workplace prevention. The course will cover risk and protective factors, strategic planning and evaluation. Participants will also learn about evidence-based prevention programs and policies and the importance of collaboration and partnership in prevention efforts. Upon completing this course, participants will have a solid understanding of substance abuse prevention, including the tools and resources available to support prevention efforts.

Objectives:

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the prevalence and impact of substance abuse in society and recognize the need for substance abuse prevention efforts.
2. Identify the key principles and best practices of substance abuse prevention, including risk and protective factors, program planning, and evaluation.
3. State the importance of collaboration and partnership in effective substance abuse prevention efforts.
