Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is a medical condition affecting millions of people, their families, and their communities. Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is an evidence-based approach to delivering early intervention treatment services for person with substance use disorders and those at risk of developing a substance use disorder. This class will discuss the process of SBIRT, why it’s important and effective, and provide video examples of both effective and ineffective screenings.
Objectives:
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the SBIRT methods and explain its benefits.
2. Identify effective and ineffective brief intervention strategies.
3. Apply the SBIRT methods in a primary care setting.
