Merchant education is a strategy to increase awareness and knowledge of store employees, store managers, and store owners about the importance of preventing tobacco product sales to anyone under the age of 21. In this workshop, participants will receive a packet of information on current state law requirements regarding minors and tobacco, employee/employer training resources, and general information in seeking assistance to ensure compliance with the state law.

Objectives:

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

1. Explain tobacco laws and the Synar Amendment.
2. Identify documents to share with merchants to verify their compliance with the law. 
3. Demonstrate merchant education training techniques.

  • 3.0 CE’s for:
  • CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist)
  • DMH (PLACE)
  • MAAP (Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals)
  • SW (Social Work) general hours
